On October 6th, 2016 I had my last surgery of this year. It was my arm liposuction surgery with laser assisted liposuction. What is laser you ask? You’ve never heard of this being used in Germany?! Well, you’d be right. While laser has been around for quite awhile (even longer than Continue Reading
Tumescent liposuction
Tumescent liposuction is the type of liposuction that is practiced in today’s world. However, there are actually 2 types of tumescent liposuctions being practiced on lipedema patients.
The first type, and the type the posts tagged with Tumescent Liposuction is using, is purely tumescent. This means the area that will be treated is filled with a wet solution that contains local anesthesia, adrenaline (to shrink the blood vessels), and some other drugs/chemicals in the solution. Then the fat is removed with a cannula that may or may not vibrate.
The other type you may hear lipedema surgeons talk about is WAL or water assisted liposuction. It’s also tumescent because there is an infiltration period where the local is pumped into the area to be treated. But, because a stream of water that comes out of the cannula is part of the equation, the treated area isn’t pumped as full as with pure tumescent liposuction.
Neither is wrong or right, it just depends on the surgeon and their amount of expertise with the chosen technique.
Tumescent Liposuction is a BIG mess
Something that I talk about often is just how messy tumescent liposuction is. I mean, tumescent liposuction is a BIG mess. A mess of epic proportions. So messy that it creates something I fondly call the “murder trail.” The one thing that I notice is only those of us who Continue Reading

Today is day 5 after liposuction on the left thigh and, excuse my language here, but I fucking amaze myself. I actually had to count on the calendar a few times and pinch myself to make sure it really is day 5 because so far I have accomplished: Day 1 Continue Reading

Staying at a Hotel After Tumescent Liposuction
In February when I had tumescent liposuction on my calves, my husband drove me home after the liposuction procedure. My surgeon likes to see his patient the next day, but this would have meant a very long drive home after surgery then another very long drive back the next day Continue Reading
