On 9 December I went down to Tilburg to talk about my stomach liposuction. Now that it’s been a month and some change since I got my arms done, it’s pretty clear how much my stomach is a problem.
#1: Since I no longer have the weight from my butt as a counter balance, my back is doing triple duty to keep me upright by holding up probably a good 10-12kg of fat (22-26.5lbs). This is causing A LOT of pain. I’m able to keep it under control with dry needling, stretching, pain killers, and foam rolling but just. There’s some days I can barely walk everything gets so sore and knotted.
#2: My stomach is literally a lump of flesh, stuck on the front side of my body, that physically gets in the way. I can’t get the depth I’d like on squats (yea, I’m a weird person that likes to physically torture myself) or if I knock something off my lap in the car I can’t bend over and pick it up. I can’t get close enough to the mirror in the bathroom to put on makeup, since my stomach is pressing up against the edge of the counter.
#3: Now that the fat is gone off my thighs, and my stomach apron is just kind of hanging off my front, the fat literally bounces on my thighs when I cycle. Not only is this pretty uncomfortable, it ends up kind of getting painful.
#4: Either I have jeans that fit the waist and look like clown legs or I have jeans tighter in the waist while trying to get the legs to be less baggy. Option number 2 means that the waist of the jeans rub and chafe at the skin and causes sores. This sucks.
#5: This kind of sucks too. I’m in the “everything looks frumpy” stage. I’m not really a clothes horse but damnit, I’d like my clothes to fit!
Needless to say, this lump of flesh just needs to go the way of the dodo. However, my surgeon has been pretty hesitant to do it since his opinion that stomach liposuction is already a much bigger risk since it’s a lot of fat being sucked out and the size of my stomach means a lot of loose skin. This poses additional risks.
Infection and Possible Protein Buildup in the Loose Skin
Apparently, large liter stomach liposuction means a much larger risk of infection. Even better is there can be protein buildup in the folds of all the loose skin that will also lead to infection unless I’m extra careful to make sure to massage the skin daily. Mind, we’ve done this on every single surgery so far but this means that it makes it even more important.ected. This isn’t something I need in my life since I need to be in Phoenix, Arizona at the end of March!!
Stomach Liposuction is Booked for February
In the end, my surgeon agreed to do the stomach liposuction and we booked it for 15 February 2017 at 9am in Rotterdam.
Since this is a pretty big deal and I’ve already seen how being sick a few weeks before can come back and bite you in the ass when your immunity is at a low, I’ve decided to start limiting my interaction with people (especially kids) about 3 weeks before. This does mean I’ll likely miss a big family outing to Germany and won’t get to see my friends much, but it’s imperative things go well.
Then 2 weeks before I decided (with the blessing of my trainer) to stop the gym. I’ll still exercise at home since I have dumbbells and can do body weight exercises since just quitting isn’t good either.
Hopefully with this caution I’ll be able to keep any stomach bug, flu, or cold at bay and be in tip top shape for the stomach liposuction. For the rest, all we can do is comply with surgeon’s orders afterwards and hope for the best!
