Day 5 After Right Thigh Liposuction

Day 5 after right thigh liposuction once again has been the WORST day for pain.  I woke up Monday morning HURTING and my right thigh had finally decided to swell up some.  Not as big as the left thigh was on day 5, but much more painful.

Second Manual Lymph Drainage Massage After Surgery

As if things weren’t painful enough, today was going to be my 2nd post op MLD session.  I could barely stand getting my compression stocking off to shower and change the plasters on the wounds much less get the stocking back on.  Now I’d have to get it off and on again a SECOND time at MLD! To make things even more fun, the Tramadol Paracetamol pill I was taking for pain management wasn’t even touching what I was feeling.

2 hours after the first pill I took a second.  It still wasn’t touching the pain so I took a 3rd.  Right before MLD started, the pain killers were FINALLY kicking in and I dare say I was a bit high.  Ok, it wasn’t a bit.  I was giggling, happy go lucky high.

My regular MLD therapist is on vacation this week so instead I got her co-worker.  My MLD therapist actually told her co-worker that if she hurt me, I’d probably rip off her face.  Yup, that happened.  So while she wasn’t worried, she was rather wary.  Luckily, and much to her relief, my husband was with me so he actually helped take off my stocking.

I’m glad I didn’t cancel my appointment (I was thinking about it!) because it actually helped with the swelling quite a bit.  No clue if it helped with the pain, it probably did if I could feel it.

Even better, my husband who massages my legs at night, picked up some tips so that’s going a little better as well.

Another Workout Under My Belt at the Gym Day 5 After Right Thigh Liposuction

After MLD it was off to the gym for another workout.  For as much as my leg was hurting, I was actually able to cycle a little bit on the stationary bike which helped the lump that’s starting to form on the back of my thigh (this happened with my left thigh, but was much worse).  It really helped that my knee hasn’t swollen up to the proportions that my left knee did during that surgery.

I was able to complete all of my exercises, even though I had some giggling fits, and I even managed to break some PRs (personal records) so I count that as a big success.  Actually, about half way through my session the Tramadol was starting to wear off a bit making me a little less high but the pain still tolerable.  Now the joke with my personal trainer is I need to get high to come and deal with him!

Called Surgeon to Ask WHY This Surgery is More Painful

Since this surgery has been more painful (both the surgery and recovery), my husband called the surgeon to see if there was a possible reason.  Unfortunately, my surgeon really doesn’t have an answer other than every surgery and limb is difference.  It could be the heat and humidity (there’s no air conditioning in houses in the Netherlands), it could be anything.  As long as the swelling isn’t out of control and I’m able to manage the pain, there’s nothing to be concerned about.

In other words, this just happens sometimes and there’s no reason since everything pretty much went like it was supposed to.  Guess I’ll just have to put my big girl panties on and suck it up.
