Liposuction for Lipedema (the calves):
- Tumescent liposuction for lipedema on the calves (surgery day)
- Day 1 after liposuction for lipedema of the calves
If you’re wondering what it’s like 33 days post op, after having 3.5 liters of fat taken out of both calves combined, then you’ll want to keep reading. Please keep in mind that my results may vary from other patients who need to have more, or less taken out. Diet and exercise also play a huge role in post surgery recovery so mileage will vary depending on what your own lifestyle is like.
33 days after calf liposuction and I’m getting closer to normal every day
Today at the gym, I was able to put my upper shin/lower knee on an exercise bench to do a one armed row with very little pain as long as I folded my towel up and used it as a cushion. This time last week, it was still too painful.
Today I have ankles and I can actually feel my calf muscles!
Today I can feel my hand run over the skin of my shin and calf and there is very little numb areas left.
Today all of the puncture wounds are closed up and the scabs have long fallen off.
Today, my calves almost look like normal calves.
So as you can see, things are getting back to normal in the calf department. I still have to walk a couple times a day or go to the gym and lift, do the cross trainer, or spin in order to get the circulation going and keep my calves and ankles from swelling. Of course I still have to wear my compression stockings. I also still have to do MLD (manual lymph drainage) and I’ve upped my sessions to 2x a week. That won’t change for awhile, especially as I get more surgeries. The fluid and drainage like going down.
But, overall, things are going very well. The bruises have faded quite a bit, some of the smaller puncture wounds are also fading, and I finally shaved my legs in the bath the other night to get rid of the black forest that was growing (since I couldn’t feel my skin due to numbness caused by the surgery, I wasn’t comfortable with shaving quite yet).
Oh, and my right leg is starting to catch up with my left in the terms of size. For the last 30 days or so, my right leg has been huge and hard feeling. The surgeon kept telling me it was nothing but swelling and this result is perfectly normal. Pfft, easy for him to say. It’s not his leg! However, I guess I can start believing him now that it’s starting to look smaller and it’s starting to soften up.
Next Surgery is in April….
Now all I need to do is wait for my next surgery on April 13th. This will be my left thigh and I suspect my surgeon will be taking out between 5-7 liters of fat, if not a little more. I’m extremely excited for this particular surgery since the fat has grown in bulges between my thighs and is causing all sorts of issues. Hopefully having the fat sucked off one side will help to start giving some relief with the walking and joint issues that fat bulge is causing!
But first, a trip to the US for business!
